CM Punk Taunts Rival In Home Country
This week on WWE television we saw a lot of our regular weekly sponsors along with a few new sponsors. The weekly sponsorships we saw included progressive sponsoring “Smackdown” and the Prime hydration station on both “Raw” and “Smackdown”. The first one off sponsorship spot we saw was for the venue for Raw '' which took place in Corpus Christi, Texas. In the background of several backstage segments the logo for the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders could be seen very clearly. Last weekend on the premium live event “Clash At The Castle” when CM Punk could be seen wearing a Celtic Football Club jersey as he is currently in a rivalry with Drew McIntyre. This is important as Drew McIntyre is from Glasgow, Scotland but is a fan Celtic Football Clubs rival Ranger Football Club which played into the rivalry with CM Punk. This come along with the announcement from Fightfuls Robert Defelice where he said CM Punk is very close to being medically cleared to wrestle again. On “NXT” this week we saw a continuation of the NXT and TNA collaboration as multiple TNA superstars participated in a battle royale. On TNA this week we saw the first NXT superstar make an appearance on TNA television in Tatum Paxley who took on Jordynne Grace for the TNA women's championship.
This week on AEW television we saw several of the weekly sponsorships we have become accustomed to. The first of these sponsorships is the turnbuckle and barricade sponsor DraftKings who are a regular sponsor on both “Dynamite” and “Rampage”. We also saw several sponsorship spots from Youtooz who have partnered with AEW to create cartoon versions of wrestlers that are marketed towards children.
On TNA this week we also saw a spot where wrestler AJ Francis wore a Scottie Pippen bulls jersey to antagonize the audience as the show was put on in a small venue in Chicago. This got a large reaction from the passionate crowd which booed AJ Francis, which is the reaction he was looking for as a bad guy. We also saw two ring sponsors, those being Axs TV and FightNetwork which both stream TNA shows. We also saw barricade sponsors for TNA’s streaming service along with their website where they sell merchandise.
When I used to watch wrestling CM punk was always the type of guy to take on a villain type of role. I guess some roles for performers never change. A question that I have is NXT like a developmental wrestling stage where they can get called up to raw/ smackdown
ReplyDeleteHello again JT! I think that the facts about AJ Francis wearing a Scottie Pippen jersey was hilarious. When the "bad guy" tries to antagonize a strong community like Chicago, booing is expected. The way he went about it though was very funny! I really enjoyed reading your blog this week.
ReplyDeleteThe Scottie Pippen jersey is an interesting choice! The taunting is a very common thing in WWE and this is just another example. CM Punk is one of the biggest trash talkers as well so this whole post is very intriguing.
